Flu clinics cancelled because of vaccine shortage

The Vermont Health Department says many public flu-shot clinics have been canceled because of a shortage of the seasonal flu vaccine.

The Burlington Free Press says health care providers around the state have run out of vaccine.

Health Commissioner Dr. Wendy Davis says officials have been encouraging nearly everyone to get vaccinated for the regular seasonal flu, but it is still early in the flu season.

The seasonal flu vaccine does not protect against the "swine" or H1N1 flu.

Officials say the seasonal flu vaccine contains immunizations against three different kinds of flu.

Certain groups should also be vaccinated against the swine flu, after the vaccine arrives in the state.
