Anti-war protesters marked the fifth anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq with weekend rallies in Rutland and Burlington.

Gathering in a Rutland city park on Saturday, more than 100 protesters held signs questioning the cost of the war, denouncing President Bush and warning of a potential attack on Iran.

Twenty-nine-year-old Diana Bessette of Rutland says more and more people are against the war, but the prospects of it ending soon hinge on the presidential election.

Bert Thompson, a 53-year-old U.S. Navy veteran from Johnson, has attended anti-war protests around New England. He said Burlington’s peace march alone wouldn’t end the war. He said holding frequent rallies is the way to have an impact.
