The Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife says bats with white nose syndrome are continuing to die across the state.

Biologists say about 500,000 bats across the Northeast were affected by the syndrome over the winter.

Fish and Wildlife biologist Scott Darling says the hope had been that bats that survived the winter would regain their health after feeding on insects this spring.

But he says dead bats are being reported from one end of Vermont to the other.

Biologists across the region are trying to determine the cause of white nose syndrome, but so far they haven’t been able to pinpoint one.
