The trial for a Vermont woman accused of texting while driving and injuring a pedestrian is now under way.

The Burlington Free Press reports 19-year-old Emma Vieira has pleaded not guilty to one count of grossly negligent operation of a motor vehicle resulting in serious injury. If convicted, she faces up to 15 years in prison.

She’s accused of hitting Deborah Drewniak last year as she walked her dog in Colchester. Drewniak sustained a traumatic brain injury in the collision, and her dog was killed.
