First Lady’s interest in handbag causes run at Burlington company

There’s a run on handbags at a Burlington company, all because First Lady Laura Bush liked one that was given to her as a gift.

On Wednesday, Bush was given a Flashbag emblazoned with an image of African children playing on a PlayPump, which is a merry-go-round that provides clean drinking water when spun.

Her press secretary says the First Lady thought the bag had a clever design and was a great conversation piece, and her interest prompted The Case Foundation, which had given one to Mrs. Bush, to order as many as the Burlington makers could produce in order to give to her.

The makers of Flashbags rushed to make about 50 of the bags by last night.
