Fire officials are investigating a suspicious blaze that destroyed a ski lodge at a defunct Vermont ski area.

State police say firefighters in the town of Winhall were called Saturday morning to the former Snow Valley ski area, where the ski lodge was engulfed in flames. Firefighters from nearby Peru and Manchester helped extinguish the fire, but the building is considered a total loss.

Police estimate damages at $300,000. Nobody was injured.

A state fire investigator has ruled the fire suspicious. Vermont State Police are asking people with information to call the Vermont arson tip line.

The Snow Valley ski area operated for decades before closing in the early 1980s.
