(Host) Trustees at Fletcher Allen Health Care have selected two finalists in their search for a new chief executive of Vermont’s largest hospital. The two are Kenneth Bloem and Doctor Melinda L. Estes. Both candidates will visit Burlington next week to meet employees and community leaders.

Bloem is a consultant who served as CEO of two academic medical centers. Estes is a neuropathologist with a background in health care administration. She’s worked as the chief executive of the Cleveland Clinic in Florida for the last two years.

Louise McCarren, who chairs the Fletcher Allen board of trustees, says the trustees want community input on the two candidates.

(McCarren) “We established the advisory committee, but we also held a series of open employee meetings at both campuses. [We] reached out specifically to the housekeepers, and tried to get as broad input as we could in what they’d like to see in the next CEO. And what our employees told us helped form the basis of the criteria we used to evaluate the candidates.”

(Host) Trustees will meet at the end of next week to begin deliberations on the new CEO appointment.
