Vermont’s farms employ at least 1500 migrant farm workers, and nearly one-third of them come from Chiapas. When one of those workers, José Obeth Santiz Cruz, died on a Vermont farm last December, three members of a farmworkers’ rights group traveled to his village to learn more about his life and the lives of other workers who have come to Vermont. And they’ve now produced a documentary called "Silenced Voices" that is showing at locations around Vermont this summer.
Brendan O’Neill and Gustavo Teran are two of the film’s producers. They spoke with VPR’s Mitch Wertlieb about the film and what they learned while in Mexico.
