FEMA Funding Uncertainty Grows

Vermont state officials say the cloud of uncertainty surrounding federal funding for recovery from Tropical Storm Irene has grown thicker. That’s because two top officials with the Federal Emergency Management Agency have left the state.

Administration Secretary Jeb Spaulding says the state has been working for months with FEMA officials over some complicated issues. Those issues include how much Vermont will be reimbursed for the destruction of the Vermont State Hospital and much of the surrounding state office complex, in Waterbury.

Spaulding says he and other state officials learned recently that the top FEMA official in Vermont has had to go out on medical leave for an undetermined period. In addition, FEMA Northeast Administrator Don Boyce is moving to a government job in Washington.
