Health care facilities in northern New England will get faster access to the latest medical information through a new regional broadband network.

The New England Telehealth Consortium network will link 555 rural and urban health care sites throughout Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.

The consortium is announcing details of the program in Whitefield, New Hampshire this afternoon.

A $25 million Federal Communications Commission grant will fund the network, which is designed to provide health care providers with quick and convenient access to the latest research and medical advances, expert support and team consultations.

The new network will speed the sharing of medical records and provide access for remote medical diagnostics and surgery, dentistry and behavioral health treatment.
