The head of the Federal Communications Commission will be in Burlington tonight to host a town meeting on the switch to digital television.

Commissioner Michael Copps will be at a town meeting hosted by Senator Bernie Sanders.

Starting in February, all television broadcasts in the United States will switch to digital only. Vermonters who currently receive over-the-air signals with an antenna or rabbit ears will no longer receive a signal. People who get their TV through a cable or satellite provider will see no change. And some newer television sets with digital tuners will also be unaffected by the switch.

The federal government is offering 40-dollar coupons to customers to help purchase digital converter boxes. Copp will join a panel to discuss the changes with the public.
