Farm show kicks off in Barre

Farmers are gathering in Barre at this hour for the first big banquet of the annual Vermont Farm Show.

Today’s feast is sponsored by the Vermont Maple Sugarmakers’ Association.

The Farm Show is an opportunity every winter for groups like the sugarmakers to get together and discuss the issues facing their sectors of the farm industry.

Although the show is primarily for farmers, tomorrow is when consumers are invited. One of the highlights will be the "political pull” milking contest. Teams from the state Senate and House will compete to see who can get the most milk from a cow.

The Farm Show continues through Thursday afternoon at the Barre Auditorium.
