An eyewitness is disputing a police account of what happened to a 39-year-old Thetford man who died after being shot in the chest with a stun gun.

State Police said Macadam Mason was yelling aggressively and moving toward a trooper with a closed fist when he was shot with a Taser on Wednesday at the home he share with his longtime girlfriend. Police were responding to a report that Mason had made threats to harm and kill himself and others.

Aleks Davidonis, the son of Mason’s girlfriend, told the Valley News that Mason stood up, raised his hands and said something to the effect of "shoot me," but didn’t clench his fist or charge the officers.

Autopsy results won’t be known for several weeks.
