Extensive renovations due at State Office Building

A state office building linked to a rare ailment among six former and current workers will need extensive and costly renovations.

That’s the conclusion of a new engineering report on the State Office Building in Bennington.

State workers were moved out of the building in March after six people who worked there developed sarcoidosis.

A company from Maine evaluated the building and points to a couple of possible sources of health problems.

There is a buildup of moisture from several sources in the building, and soot has been spread around the structure by boilers.

Vermont Buildings Commissioner Gerry Myers says renovations on the building will be expensive and he doesn’t have an estimate of the cost yet.
