Some Vermonters could be eligible for a second round of emergency unemployment benefits.

Last week President Bush signed legislation that expanded the emergency program from 13 weeks of additional benefits to up to 20 weeks.

The state has started to notify those who could be eligible for the extended benefits.

The Vermont Department of Labor says emergency benefits will be available to people who have exhausted all regular unemployment benefits and worked 20 weeks in a full-time job or earned the same amount in insured wages.

For those already receiving emergency unemployment, the state will adjust their accounts so they receive the expanded compensation.
