Exonerated death row inmate brings his story to Vermont

A man who spent more than a decade on death row brings the story of his eventual exoneration to the Vermont Law School in South Royalton tonight, as part of VLS’s "Witness to Innocence" program.

In 1974 Shabaka WaQlimi then known as Joseph Brown–was living in Florida when he was convicted of rape and murder in a high profile trial.

The next 13 years were spent on Florida’s death row, before evidence unearthed in the appeals process overturned his conviction.

But WaQlimi’s life was spared by only the thinnest of margins:
