A former Vermont State Police trooper will serve time in jail after pleading no contest to charges he assaulted a teenager.

Thirty-four-year-old John F. Plaster has been sentenced to 30 days, which will be served on weekends over the next six months.

Plaster, formerly of Cambridge, is accused of assaulting the teenager Nov. 18th after being called to the Eden home of Lauris Slutz, who reported that her 18-year-old son Brian had taken her car.

Plaster allegedly put Slutz into a choke hold until he was unresponsive and pushed him into a concrete wall.

Plaster, who resigned from the force earlier this year, originally pleaded not guilty to assault charges.

As part of the plea deal, he must undergo anger management counseling and pay a $2,000 fine.
