A former federal prosecutor is headed to prison for five years for a 2005 bank robbery spree in Vermont and New York.

Thirty-seven-year-old Andrew J. McKenna, of Averill Park, New York, is also being ordered to repay $25,000.

He was sentenced in federal court in Albany, New York, on Tuesday.

McKenna robbed a Trustco Bank in Bennington on Oct. 25, 2005, making off with $3,650 and then a Chittenden Bank in Bennington, getting away with $1,427 on Nov. 1. Both times, he approached tellers and showed notes saying he had a gun and wanted money.

Three weeks later, he was arrested after a similar robbery in New York. He was named as a suspect in other New York robberies.
