Four months after a teacher was shot and killed in a classroom, the Essex Elementary School is still healing from the shooting spree.
As part of that healing process the school is setting up a memorial scholarship to honor 56-year-old Alicia Shanks.
The principal says the scholarship will help Essex students who want to teach, and others who continue to grapple with the second-grade teacher’s death.
Shanks lived in Essex and was one of two people killed in August in a shooting spree that injured three others.
Police say 28-year-old Christopher Williams fatally shot Linda Lambesis in her Essex home and then went to the school searching for his ex-girlfriend. Shanks was killed at the school when Williams opened fire.
