The Founders Memorial School in Essex will remain closed Wednesday because of a leaky roof.

Students were moved out of the school Tuesday after the Essex Town fire chief pronounced the school unsafe.

The Founders School includes grades 3, 4 and 5 and has about 400 students. The students were transferred to the middle school, where they were either bused home or picked up by parents.

Officials say the school will stay closed so state and local fire officials can assess the problem.

Parents will be notified if the school will reopen Thursday.
