Voters in Essex, Essex Junction and Westford rejected a proposal to consolidated four school districts into one.

The proposed school district came out of a Unified Union Study Committee which was charged with examining the idea of a singular district. That group recommended the merger in April.

The Unified Union Study committee says the new district would have provided the promise of increased educational experience for students. They also say the merger would decrease duplication of services and cut costs.

The unified union was rejected by voters in Essex and Essex Junction.

The town of Westford also had the opportunity to join the district, but voters in that town easily rejected the plan.
