EPA to look at chemical containers at Mace Security

Investigators from the federal Environmental Protection Agency are due in Bennington today to see if chemicals from the Mace Security International facility leaked.

EPA spokesman David Deegan says that during a February inspection, officials found containers that held chemicals used to make tear gas type substances produced by Mace apparently stored in the ground.

Deegan says the condition of the containers will be assessed and they’ll look at the condition of the ground water as well.

He says inspectors could be there for months.

Mace founder Jon Goodrich describes the EPA’s search as "really nothing.”

Mace makes personal defense products.
