A coalition of Vermont environmental groups and politicians is asking Governor Jim Douglas to protect them from a plan to burn tires at a New York paper mill. The groups want Douglas to ask New York Governor George Pataki to intervene in the permit process for the tire burn.

The International Paper mill in Ticonderoga, New York wants to burn the tires for fuel.
