Governor Jim Douglas will unveil a statue on the Lake Champlain waterfront in Burlington today. The sculpture is a gift to the state from the province of Quebec.

And it’s meant to symbolize the strong bonds that link Vermont and Quebec.

The presentation is part of the celebration of the 12-day Burlington International Waterfront Festival, marking the 400 anniversary of the European exploration of the lake by Samuel de Champlain.
