Their work on the state budget done, Vermont Gov. Jim Douglas and lawmakers are goin’ fishin’.

Douglas will host the second annual Lake Champlain International Governor’s Cup fishing derby, a catch-and-release event set for Tuesday in Colchester.

Last year’s inaugural event raised $6,000, with half the proceeds going to the Howard Center’s "Fishing for Friends" initiative and the other half paying to start up a children’s conservation program.

This year’s proceeds will go to the Lake Champlain Fisheries Recovery Initiative and the Lake Champlain Next Generation Fund.

Douglas, state officers, lawmakers and benefactors are expected at the event, which is being held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the state Fish and Wildlife’s Colchester Point access area, on Windemere Way in Colchester.
