Douglas Thinking About His Future

(Host) Vermont is transfixed with the campaign for the next governor.

But in the meantime, the current governor is thinking about what he’ll do when he leaves office.

Jim Douglas doesn’t talk much about his planned political retirement. But he did offer a few thoughts at a news conference today.

(Douglas) "Part of it is after doing the same general type of work for so long, it’s hard to decide what I’d like to do. A lot of my friends will come up and try to engage in a conversation and say, ‘Say there’s a clean slate and you could do anything in the world. What would you like to do?’ I don’t have a good answer for that question."

(Host) Douglas has served in state government for more than 30 years. But he’s just 59 and expects to find work after he leaves office in early January.
