(Host) Governor Jim Douglas says he’s standing behind his earlier, enthusiastic support for Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

In an interview today on V-P-R, the governor said he hadn’t been following all of the news coverage of Sarah Palin but that he’s still a supporter.

(Douglas) "Well, I don’t know if she’s the best pick, but she is Senator McCain’s pick, and she is a friend, she’s a colleague…your question was is she the best. I don’t know that. But Senator McCain made the choice and now the American people, the people of Vermont will have to decide between two candidates on each ticket.

(Host) Governor Douglas says he hasn’t watched the presidential or the vice presidential debates on television. He says he’s focused on his own race in Vermont.

But he said he’s seen a number of instances where voters might be splitting their ticket. He says he’s seen side-by-side lawn signs for him and Democratic Presidential Candidate Barack Obama.
