Douglas signs shooting range protection bill

Vermont Governor James Douglas has signed into law a measure designed to give new legal protections for shooting ranges.

The bill is designed to protect the ranges from what the governor terms frivolous lawsuits and unwarranted nuisance claims.

Neighbors of a Shaftsbury shooting range last year complained that shooting activity there had increased so much that they could not longer get full enjoyment from their properties.

Douglas said the ranges provide important training for young hunters and law enforcement officers and are an important part of Vermont’s rural tradition.
