Douglas says casinos wrong for Vermont

Vermont Gov. Jim Douglas says he would be strongly opposed to any plan to bring resort casinos to Vermont.

He says casinos would not be in keeping with Vermont’s character and values.

The governor’s comments followed Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick’s announcement this week that he would support three casinos in different parts of the Bay State.

Douglas notes that a proposal for a casino in Pownal a decade ago went down to overwhelming defeat in the state Senate.
