Douglas says 2010 campaign starting too early

(Host) Governor Jim Douglas says it’s too early to start the 2010 campaign.

Chittenden Senator Doug Racine and Secretary of State Deb Markowitz are both exploring a run for governor.

But Douglas says that public officials need to stay focused on solving the state’s economic crisis.

(Douglas) “Anyone is welcome to run for any office. I think Vermonters are disappointed that there’s so much focus on the 2010 election. I know we have brief terms here, but to have at least one announced candidate for governor before the term began, I think most Vermonters view as perverse, frankly.”

(Host) State treasurer Jeb Spaulding recently announced he will not run for governor. Racine and Markowitz have taken formal steps to organize a campaign.
