Governor Jim Douglas and his counterparts in other states are calling on Congress to act soon on an economic recovery package that includes additional funding for Medicaid and infrastructure projects.

In a letter to congressional leaders yesterday, the National Governors Association said the money is needed by the states to help counter the effects of growing unemployment and increasing demand for state services.

The group wants new investments in airports, highways, transit systems and broadband.

The letter was signed by Douglas and by NGA chairman Ed Rendell, who’s the Pennsylvania governor.
