Vermont lawmakers and Governor Jim Douglas are trading criticisms on a housing bill making its way through the House.

Douglas yesterday issued a news release saying that the Democratic version of the bill would discourage the construction of new affordable housing in the state. He calls the bill too restrictive.

Democratic House Speaker Gaye Symington countered that much of the housing Douglas’ housing plan would be expensive and that he would do damage to the Act 250 development control law in the process.
