Douglas disappointed with PSB wind project approval

(Host) Governor Douglas says he’s disappointed that the Public Service Board approved a large-scale wind project in the Northeast Kingdom.

(Douglas) "I don’t believe that industrializing our ridgelines is the right thing to do for the natural beauty of our state. I don’t think the modest amount of electricity that will be generated from wind turbines is worth the impairment of our ridgelines. But I also respect the law. The Public Service Board is a quasi judicial body and made a decision that I’m sure reflects it."

(Host) The Public Service Board approved the project with 36 conditions. The board imposed noise limits on the turbines and said the wind developer has to negotiate stable power contracts with utilities.

Douglas says he hopes the decision does not open the door to many more large-scale wind projects in Vermont.
