(Host) Governor Jim Douglas was in Brattleboro Thursday for the city’s annual “Governor’s Day.”

Among other things, Douglas was asked about recent problems at the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Plant, the most recent being a fire in a transformer outside the plant.

(Douglas) “There’s no question that we’ve seen a number of issues over the last few months that are disconcerting to me and my administration and I know to many people in our state. The NRC is coming to Montpelier I think next week to meet with the PSB and talk about the engineering study that they plan to do in connection with the proposed uprate. And that’ll give the board and the department a chance to talk with the federal government about all these issues.”

(Host) The NRC is meeting with the Public Service Board to review the plan for an independent engineering assessment associated with a 20 percent increase in power.
