Diane Snelling will replace her mother in the Vermont Senate. Barbara Snelling resigned her Chittenden County seat recently because she has not fully recovered from a stroke.

Snelling urged the Chittenden County Republican Committee to endorse her daughter for the vacancy but the Committee chose instead to recommend three other people.

Governor Howard Dean selected Diane Snelling Thursday and says she’s the best person to reflect the views of her mother:

(Dean) “I thought Diane best represented the voters in Chittenden County who elected Barbara Snelling to the Senate, will represent the politics that her mother brought to the Senate, and will best represent the thoughtfulness the character and the sense of independence that I think Chittenden County needs and deserves.”

Diane Snelling will be sworn into office next Tuesday.
