(Host) The Grand Isle Democratic Party is recommending that Governor Peter Shumlin appoint the husband of the late sheriff to the now-vacant post in Grand Isle.

Sgt. Ray Allen of South Hero is the widower of former Sheriff Connie Allen, who committed suicide earlier this month.

Ray Allen is one of three people seeking the office.

Shumlin will pick Sheriff Allen’s replacement, and he is not required to appoint the person recommended by the party.

Ray Allen has been a Grand Isle deputy sheriff for 20 years, including 13 as a patrol sergeant.
