Decision on Sunapee expansion delayed till January

A decision on the Mount Sunapee ski resort’s expansion probably will not happen until John Lynch formally takes over as New Hampshire’s new governor. That delays the decision until at least January.

Tim and Diane Mueller, who own Okemo Mountain Resort in Vermont, want to extend operations at Sunapee over 175 more acres, up from more than 950. The land would be used for trails, chair lift and condominiums. Opponents say the expansion would cause sprawl next to a state park and destroy the character of nearby residential areas.

Lynch has opposed the expansion. Resort officials have said Lynch is a businessman who can be sold on the idea. Opponents say they’re sure he won’t waver.
