Dean Will Consider Diane Snelling for Senate Seat

Governor Howard Dean says he is going to expand the list of possible candidates to replace outgoing Chittenden Senator Barbara Snelling.

The Chittenden County Republican Committee has forwarded a list of three candidates to Dean but the group does not include Senator Snelling’s daughter, Diane.

The list does include: Brian Dubie, who ran as the GOP candidate for lt. governor last year, Milton Representative Doran Metzger and Essex Representative Linda Kirker.

The governor told Bob Kinzel last night on Switchboard that he thinks the three candidates are quite conservative and he is very surprised that the GOP County Committee did not support Senator Snelling’s request to have her daughter appointed to her senate seat:

(Dean) “To have her one wish as she steps out the door after a wonderful career in public service just ignored, you just sort of scratch your head, you know? What are these folks thinking? I will interview them. They are nice, decent people that were nominated. I know them all I have worked with some of them in the Legislature, but I will also interview other people as well.”

(Kinzel) “Will you interview Diane Snelling?”

(Dean) “I am sure I will. I am sure I will.”

Dean says he wants to make this appointment no later than February 1.
