Dean urges party to unify behind Obama

Former Governor Howard Dean is urging his fellow Democrats to put aside their differences and rally behind their party’s presumptive presidential nominee, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama.

Dean — who is now chairman of the Democratic National Committee — joined the party’s congressional leadership yesterday in issuing a statement praising both Obama and his now vanquished primary rival, New York Sen. Hillary Clinton.

Dean says he looks forward to working with Obama’s team during the coming general election campaign.

Dean says he thinks the primary campaign has helped to reinvigorate the Democratic party, and that bodes well for the fall campaign.
