Vermont Governor Howard Dean will be leaving for Jerusalem on Saturday. He’ll spend five days touring the area and meeting with Israeli and Palestinian leaders.

Dean is tentatively scheduled to meet former Foreign Minister Shimon Peres and current Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. Dean says it’s important for anyone running for president to visit the Middle East to get a first-hand impression of the issues confronting the region.

The trip is sponsored and paid for by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.
