Governor Howard Dean gave his endorsement Monday to Lieutenant Governor Douglas Racine. Dean applauded Racine as the fiscally conservative candidate in this year’s race for governor. Dean also said Racine is the candidate most likely to carry on his legacy, which he says involves keeping the state budget balanced.

Racine said he believes the governor’s endorsement will be an important boost to his campaign. Without mentioning other candidates, Dean criticized those who say state spending is out of control and those who advocate increased state borrowing. Independent Cornelius Hogan and Republican James Douglas have both been critical of the Dean administration.
