Dartmouth Says New Hazing Policy Has Positive Results

Dartmouth College is still implementing its new hazing policies, and officials say the changes are producing positive results.

Starting this fall, safety and security officers began conducting random inspections of the common areas of fraternities, sororities and residence halls. The new policies also include offering limited immunity to individuals who report hazing and allowing fraternities and other groups to make a "fresh start" if they acknowledge their involvement in hazing and develop a plan to stop it. In the coming months, the college also plans to require that alcohol be served by licensed bartenders.

That idea is unpopular with students, but Dean of the College Charlotte Johnson says overall she’s been impressed that so many students have worked with the administration.
