(Host) A Dartmouth College institute and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center have joined a first-of-its-kind collaboration with other leading hospitals around the country.
The goal is to improve the quality of health care while reducing costs.
The six hospitals plan to share statistics with each other about how well several common and expensive treatments work, and how much they cost.
The participating hospitals will use the information to develop more effective practices. And then they’ll share that information with hospitals around the country.
Dr. James Weinstein is the Director of the Dartmouth Institute.
Weinstein says the public doesn’t currently have a way to measure the value of their health care.
(Weinstein) Why can’t I have the best outcomes in my community versus another community. These organizations are coming together to provide that information and share it with the public at large so that all people can benefit from this information.
(Host) The Dartmouth Institute will be the home base for the collaboration. The other hospitals are The Cleveland Clinic, Denver Health, Geisinger Health System, Intermountain Health Care, and the Mayo Clinic.
