(Host) The city of Vergennes has a new mayor this morning.

Michael Daniels, a district facilities manager for the state of Vermont, has won over incumbent April Jin by an unofficial count of 260 to 175.

Daniels, who is a native of Vergennes, was the only challenger in the race. Jin served one term as mayor after running unopposed for the post.

As mayor, Daniels says he wants to focus on reducing energy consumption in the city. And he says one of his biggest challenges will be dealing with state budget cuts.

(Daniels) “The word is out that the Governor has put out his new budgets- and there are quite a few cuts there. And I think one of the big issues is our tax dollars and how we try to meet our budget in the next coming year.”
