dairy cooperative, along with its marketing affiliate, is objecting to a proposed $30 million antitrust settlement against Dean Foods.

The Burlington Free Press reports the settlement would have Dean paying the penalty to as many as 13,000 dairy farmers. The settlement would also require the company to buy up to 60 million pounds of milk each month from sources besides the Dairy Farmers of America coop.

DFA chief operating officer for the Northeast says the best interests of dairy farmers are not being looked out for with the deal. DFA and the Dairy Marketing Services also also named in the antitrust lawsuit and continue to fight it.
