Vermont’s largest electric utility is looking for a buyer.

An investment newsletter Power Finance and Risk is reporting that the Central Vermont Public Service Corporation has hired Morgan Stanley to investigate its options, including a sale.

CVPS officials won’t comment. The utility serves about 150,000 electric customers from one end of Vermont to the other.

Public Service Commissioner David O’Brien says there has been a steady stream of rumors about the possible sale of CVPS.

Earlier this year, Gaz Metro of Quebec, bought Vermont’s second largest electric utility, Green Mountain Power.
