A $10,000 gift from Vermont’s largest utility will help to replace holiday gifts destroyed by vandals in St. Albans.

An estimated $20,000 worth of toys was damaged in late October when vandals broke into a building and discharged fire extinguishers. The gifts, which were being stored in the building, were collected as part of a Toys for Kids program, intended for needy families in Chittenden and Franklin counties.

Central Vermont Public Service Corp. offered to make a donation a short time after workers learned of the incident.

The St. Albans Messenger and other businesses also have collected thousands of dollars in toys for the same cause.
