CVPS Board Authorizes Talks With Gaz Metro

(Host) Central Vermont Public Service says it will consider the latest takeover bid for the company.

Two different Canadian utilities are competing with each other to buy Vermont’s largest electric company.

The CVPS board of directors authorized management late yesterday to discuss the latest offer from Gaz Metro.

That’s the Montreal company that already owns Green Mountain Power and Vermont Gas.

CVPS earlier agreed to be acquired by Fortis of Newfoundland.  

But Gaz Metro made a counter-offer and CVPS says that bid is "reasonably likely to lead to a superior proposal."
