Courtroom melee breaks out in Bennington

A courtroom melee broke out today in Bennington when a Shaftsbury man who’s accused of killing his former brother-in-law was arraigned.

Vermont State Police charge 40-year-old Michael Christmas with killing Ronald Wilkins of North Bennington on Saturday.

Christmas pleaded innocent today and a judge ordered him held without bail.

During the courtroom appearance, screaming and cursing broke out.

Courtroom benches were shoved around and family members of the two men had be separated and escorted out of Vermont District Court.
