Vermont Corrections Commissioner Rob Hofmann will become Vermont’s new secretary of the Agency of Human Services.

The office of Gov. Jim Douglas announced Wednesday that Hofmann will replace Secretary Cindy LaWare who is stepping down to explore other opportunities to serve Vermont.

Douglas says Hofmann shares his view that the best social program is a good job and the best way to balance the budget is to grow the economy.

Douglas says Hofmann has proven to be an innovative, caring and pragmatic leader at the Department of Corrections who understands the challenge of building a responsible and compassionate budget during difficult financial times.

Hofmann will start his new job Nov. 23.
